1)      Sustainability Workshops: Energy-Efficient Upgrades & Energy Star Benchmarking, Wednesday, April 7, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at The Old Globe, Hattox Hall. FREE. In these two, back-to-back workshops, energy efficiency consultant Mark Jewell will explore the most time-efficient and cost-effective approaches to identifying energy-saving measures, and, address energy benchmarking best practices and techniques. The workshops will be followed by an optional behind-the-scenes tour of The Old Globe buildings with Facilities Manager Randy McWilliams.

This course will explore the most time-efficient and cost-effective approaches to identifying energy-saving measures for your building. Attendees will learn how incentive offerings from San Diego Gas & Electric can reduce first cost and improve financial returns, and, how properly evaluating the costs and benefits of proposed upgrades can help get those projects approved.

More than 9 billion square feet of buildings in the United States have already used the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® portfolio manager tool to benchmark their energy performance.  By 2010, non-residential building owners and operators will be required to disclose ENERGY STAR® benchmarking ratings on their lease to prospective lessee, buyers or lenders. Workshop participants will learn about San Diego Gas & Electric’s no-cost training offered to commercial customers. Using a combination of classroom instruction and online demonstrations, this fast-paced course will address the pros and cons of various benchmarking techniques, tips for optimizing your ENERGY STAR® score, and best practices for improving the score over time. Discussions will include AB1103 and changes that need to be implemented by non-residential building owners.

Instructor Biography
 

Mark Jewell founded RealWinWin in early 2001 to provide energy usage optimization services to owners and operators of commercial real estate. Mark has been involved in the real estate industry for more than 20 years and in the energy efficiency business for over 10 years. Prior to RealWinWin, Mark founded and ran EEFG, an energy-efficiency consultancy that designed upgrades for more than 350 buildings. Mark holds a BS degree in Economics and Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership is the collaborative body and collective voice for 25 diverse arts, science and cultural institutions in Balboa Park. This workshop is sponsored by San Diego Gas & Electric and offered in conjunction with the Partnership’s Balboa Park Learning Institute.

The sustainability programs are supported by the Partnership's member institutions, Park stakeholders, the City of San Diego and San Diego Gas and Electric.
